Race Records: Karapoti is one of few events with a complete history of results for every year it has been run. In 2007, however, a fast course led to 10 new records and the fastest Karapoti's now sit with Rotorua's Clinton Avery and American-based Kiwi Jennifer Smith. But there are equally impressive records among all the age groups and off-beat grades. For race records in every category... Click Here.
Sub-3hr Club: Anyone who completes Karapoti earns bragging rights among mountain bikers. But at Karapoti itself, the bragging benchmark is the 3hr barrier. More than 14,000 riders have completed the Classic, but less than 600 riders have broken 3hrs. Simon Kennett was the first, Kathy Lynch was the first female, and only 10 others have joined her since. The fastest years have been 2007 & 2008, with 102 and 103 total Sub-3's and 46 and 49 new members. Captain of the club is Trevor Woodward, with 16 rides under the magical 3hr mark. Karapoti Life Membership: As the longest running mountain bike event in the Southern Hemisphere, if someone has played a major part in Karapoti then chances are they have had a major part in NZ mountain bike history. We thought this fact should be recognised so in 2007 we kintroduced Karapoti Life Membership. We welcome nominations for future life membership. For full list of life members... Click Here.
